Earlier today, Copa Airlines of Panama announced it would begin service to Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) at the end of June. From June 28, Copa will fly to BWI four times weekly, making Baltimore its 15th destination in the United States.

Announcing nonstop service to Baltimore

Using its hub at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, Copa continues strengthening its presence in North America. Today's announcement means that from June 28, Copa will serve 14 destinations in the mainland US, in addition to Puerto Rico. Through the new route, passengers will be able to connect to 55 Latin American destinations from PTY.

“Copa Airlines is pleased to start the year with the announcement of the new service to Baltimore BWI Marshall Airport... With this new route, we continue increasing connectivity throughout the Americas, making it easier for people from 79 destinations in 32 countries to connect with family, friends, business associates and new adventures with a single easy connection in Panama’s Tocumen Airport, the Hub of the Americas. We are proud to contribute to the tourism and economic development of the Baltimore area while also expanding travel opportunities for Marylanders throughout Latin America." - Dennis Cary, Sr. Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Copa Airlines

Ricky Smith, Director of BWI Marshall Airport, added,

“We welcome Copa Airlines and this new international service. Copa will link Maryland and the National Capital Region with the rich culture of Panama and offer easy connections across Latin America. We look forward to new tourism and economic development opportunities as a result of this partnership.”

Copa's flights to Baltimore will depart PTY on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 09:07 local time and arrive at BWI at 15:07 local time. Return flights occur on the same days, departing from the US at 16:22 local time and arriving at PTY at 20:22 local time. Copa is an all-Boeing 737 airline, but at this time, it is unclear which 737 variant will be deployed on flights to BWI.

Fifteen American destinations

According to Cirium, Copa has flights scheduled to 14 American destinations in June, flights to BWI are not yet included in the system. Based on the number of scheduled flights, it is evident that Copa's most popular American destinations are in Florida. Of the 809 scheduled flights to the US, 377 are to Florida airports, with the Miami area receiving the most flights. Between Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport and Miami International Airport, 218 flights are scheduled in June. New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport also sees a significant amount of Copa service, with 90 flights in June, three per day.
