Earlier today, Brazilian airline Gol Linhas Aéreas announced that its passengers can now choose to offset carbon from flights, on its website.

Committed to sustainability

In partnership with Moss, GOL launched a campaign with Moss named #meuvoocompensa eighteen months ago. Through the campaign, 13.1 thousand tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) were offset, equivalent to 1,878,312 trees saved.

Since January 20, the new feature has been live on the airline's website. At the time of purchase, customers can voluntarily select to offset the carbon emissions from flights, making it easier than before. The offset option is available, just like choosing to check bags or seat selection at the time of purchase.

"For more than 12 years GOL has developed initiatives to mitigate the impacts of its flights on the environment. With the launch of the #meuvoocompensa campaign in 2021, we further cemented our commitment to sustainability. We accepted the challenge to make this option available in an innovative manner, to all our passengers." - Eduardo Bernardes, Vice-President, GOL

On GOL's São Paulo/Congonhas - Rio de Janeiro/Santos Dumont route, emissions can be offset for about 50¢. The flight between the two cities lasts an average of 50 minutes. On a longer route, like from Porto Alegre (POA) to Salvador (SSA), passengers will pay about $7 for the emissions offset. Passengers are given the option to offset one or both segments on a roundtrip booking.

Bernardes added,

"The results from the campaign show that though the path chosen is long, it is promising, and the launch of the new phase further reinforces our conviction that all efforts to preserve the planet have been worthwhile."
