Finishing 2022 with a strong result, Boise Airport (BOI), Idaho, surpassed pre-pandemic traffic, setting itself a new record. Ending 2022, the airport recorded 4.5 million travelers through its door, surpassing 2019's results by 9%. Boise Airport Director Rebecca Hupp commented to the Idaho Press about its latest result:

“The explosive growth we’ve seen in the Treasure Valley certainly correlates to an increased demand for air service. We expect traffic in 2023 to continue to be strong, which is why we’ve been working so hard to ensure the Boise Airport is prepared for that growth.”

In August last year, Simple Flying analyzed the airport's and placed it as the 10th fastest-growing airport in the United States.

Preparations for continued growth

With continued growth recorded at the airport, Boise is powering ahead with its 'BOI Upgrade' plan, expanding its Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security checkpoint from six to seven lanes and plans on adding a new concourse. Concourse A is expected to start construction by 2026, initially being home to six gates, with the ability to extend to ten. The new concourse will also encompass restaurants, retail, and washrooms. The rental car precinct is also getting an upgrade, with a $66 million investment. Phase one of the rental car facilities upgrade will include almost 1,100 stalls and offices for rental companies, and the car parking garage will stretch over 600,000 square feet.

More parking for visitors and staff is also included. Last November, the airport completed its upgrade of the economy parking lot, increasing by 340 spaces, with a total capacity now of 1,650 spaces. The airport is also in construction for its staff parking building, which will home 700 vehicles over five levels.
