From its offices near São Paulo, Brazilian planemaker Embraer announced a leadership change today. The January 30th announcement sees the company appoint Andreza de Souza Alberto as its new Vice President of People, ESG (environment, social, governance), and Communication. Alberto replaces Carlos Alberto Griner, who announced in December that he would be leaving the company.

Newest change

Effective February 1st, Andreza de Souza Alberto will be Embraer's new Vice President of People, ESG, and Communication. Alberto leaves her position as director of operations at Embraer’s Gavião Peixoto (SP) unit for the new role. According to Embraer, Alberto has racked up 17 years of experience at the Brazilian planemaker and holds a degree in mechatronics engineering, with specialization courses in management at Fundação Dom Cabral and governance at the Instituto Brasileiro de Governança Corporativa - or Brazilian Institute Corporate Governance in English.

In her role overseeing operations at Embraer's Gavião Peixoto (SP) unit, Alberto was in charge of 2,000 employees who were focused on the production of defense aircraft and executive jets. She previously worked as a production manager and manufacturing engineering supervisor. The company notes that she has a "strong focus on people management, safety and quality, process improvements, and Lean implementation."

Commenting on the change in leadership, Francisco Gomes Neto, President and CEO of Embraer, stated:

“Andreza is a great leader of people, and a professional focused on results and the constant search for efficiency. Her skills are fully aligned with the new organizational culture we are implementing at the company...I am sure that she will continue the ongoing transformation in the area and will challenge us to accelerate the actions and processes aimed at managing people, our environment, health and safety.”

Neto also thanked outgoing VP, Carlos Alberto Griner, for his years of service.

Developing the future of (clean) regional flight

2023 should be another interesting year for the commercial side of the company as it seeks to generate more orders for its E2 line of aircraft. At the same time, we will hopefully see more details regarding its Energia project - which is an initiative to explore a range of sustainable concept aircraft to carry up to 50 passengers. The project will consider "a number of energy sources, propulsion architectures and airframe layouts to reduce our carbon emissions by 50% starting from 2030."

The key highlights of this endeavor include concepts for:

  • Hybrid-electric propulsion
  • Hydrogen fuel cell propulsion
  • Full-electric aircraft, designed for short-range missions
  • And a dual-fuel concept to power a gas turbine with two different fuel sources (SAF or Hydrogen) for maximum operational flexibility

Unfortunately, while a new turboprop stole our attention last year, December 2022 brought news that the company would be postponing this project due to supplier issues. Hopefully, in the coming months, we will see Embraer find what it needs to resume this new aircraft.
