Cathay Pacific has recently seen its traffic grow due to the relaxation of restrictions regarding travel to its Hong Kong base. It has been able to operate more flights, which, in turn, have carried more passengers. This has led to increasing demand for its lounges, prompting the oneworld carrier to reopen 'The Deck.'

Back in action

In a statement released by the Hong Kong flag carrier today, Cathay Pacific explained that its 'The Deck' lounge is open for business again as of February 6th, 2023. This facility is one of several areas at the airline's Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) base where frequent flyers and premium passengers can spend time.

The reopening of The Deck comes almost three years after the onset of the coronavirus pandemic prompted its temporary closure. According to God Save The Points, this came into effect on February 17th, 2020, with The Bridge and The Pier (First Class) also beginning their hiatus at this point. Now, the airline explains that:

"Cathay Pacific understands its airport lounges are highly appreciated by its customers and the airline has used the time while these spaces have been closed to further invest in its lounge experience."

A new and improved experience

The aforementioned investment into the lounge experience at The Deck has seen, among other aspects, additions to its culinary offerings. For example, users of the facility's signature noodle bar now have dishes such as "Hong Kong fish ball rice-noodle soup, poached Chinese vegetables, and a delicious and nourishing Chinese soup" to choose from, alongside familiar staple plates.

Meanwhile, The Deck's main food hall will continue to offer lounge guests a variety of international dishes, meaning that there will likely be something for everyone at the reopened facility. Touching on aesthetics, Cathay Pacific adds:

"The Deck is designed in the signature StudioIlse blueprint of Cathay Pacific’s award-winning lounges in Hong Kong and across its network. Unique to The Deck is The Terrace, an open-ceiling L-shaped verandah featuring both table and individual seating, enabling visitors to take in panoramic views of the airport’s apron, taxiways and northern runway whilst enjoying their choice of drinks and dining options."

One of several lounges to be reopening

The Deck is the third Hong Kong lounge that Cathay Pacific has been able to reopen thus far. The facility, which the airline explains is "located close to Gate 6 in Terminal 1," follows The Wing (First Class) and The Pier (Business Class). The next six months will also see The Pier (First) and The Wing (Business) reopen.

Further afield, Cathay Pacific also has its eye on getting its international lounges back up and running again. These include its facilities at Tokyo Narita, Singapore Changi (both February), Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (March) and Manila's Ninoy Aquino International (April). Meanwhile, the second and third quarters will see reopenings in Beijing, San Francisco, Taipei, and Vancouver - a busy year by all accounts.
