Vistara has become the latest airline to begin operations in Goa’s new Manohar International Airport (GOX). The full-service carrier now connects the airport with Bengaluru and Mumbai, even as it already flies to Goa’s old airport (GOI) from various destinations. Goa’s new airport began operations in early January and since then, many Indian carriers have started flying there.

New services

Vistara has commenced services to Goa’s Manohar International Airport, starting daily flights from Bengaluru (BLR) along with 6x weekly flights to and from Mumbai (BOM). The carrier already flies to Goa’s old Dabolim Airport from Delhi (DEL), Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

The new Goa International Airport officially commenced operations on January 5th, with IndiGo flight 6E 6145 from Hyderabad becoming the first plane to land there. Since then, Go First, Akasa Air, and SpiceJet have all started services from GOX. Vistara’s Chief Executive Officer, Vinod Kannan commented,

“At Vistara, we remain committed to offering better connectivity to our customers by densifying our domestic network. The commencement of our operations at the Manohar International Airport will enhance our footprint in Goa and will enable us to better facilitate the growing traffic. We are certain that customers looking for direct connectivity to North Goa will appreciate the option of flying India’s most loved airline.”

Hoping for a positive last quarter

In an interview with CNBC TV18, Kannan spoke about Vistara’s plans in detail. He said that the airline performed well in the last quarter, mainly on account of it being a traditionally strong season. And while he expects demand to dip in Q4, it still looks like it will be positive.

Some of the things working in Vistara’s favor, and the entire industry for that matter, is that airfares are not as high as they were in December. This is also a strong wedding season, which sees plenty of traffic from the VFR category (visiting friends and relatives). Kannan also added that Vistara’s international flights are doing well.

The airline flies to London, Paris, and Frankfurt in Europe as well as several destinations in the Middle East. Vistara also recently inducted a brand-new Airbus A321LR aircraft and will soon use it to fly between Mumbai and Mauritius.
