Simple Flying is pleased to invite you to the next Future Flying webinar, where we will sit down with Tina Hanley, CCO of Ravn Alaska, to chat through the past, present and future of this growing regional airline. We'll be going live on February 1st at 17:00 London time (GMT), for a relaxed and informal conversation that is free and open for everyone to enjoy.

Ravn-1Feb

The little airline that could

Ravn Alaska was all set to be yet another victim of the COVID-19 pandemic as travel disruptions hit its bottom line hard. On April 5th, 2020, the airline shut down its entire operation, laid off all its staff, and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

For residents of Alaska’s rural communities, Ravn had been a lifeline, connecting up to 100 Alaskan towns at its peak back when it was Era Aviation. Following its bankruptcy, the airline was carved up, with part 135 operations sold to other airlines in the state and part 121 carrier Corvus and PenAir sold to FLOAT Shuttle.

But Alaska did have to wait long for the revival of this much-loved regional airline. In November 2020, the resurrected Ravn took to the skies once more with a charter flight from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor. Under the new FLOAT ownership, the airline has gone on to resume scheduled services from its base at Anchorage to 13 communities, plus various charter services alongside these.

And that’s not all. This newly revived airline has taken a leap towards the future, investing in hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia, signing for 50 carbon-neutral eSTOL aircraft from Airflow, and even launching a new cryptocurrency called ‘FlyCoin’ as part of its loyalty benefits.

It has partnered with Alaska Airlines for mileage redemption and is at the heart of the ambitious plan to launch flights connecting Alaska with the lower 48 through the startup airline Northern Pacific. Join us as we chat through some of these interesting developments with the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Tina Hanley, in our next Future Flying webinar.
